Cops conquer the best PR practices through a lip-sync challenge

https://youtu.be/PC-EWWDdX58 You can’t help but smile when lip syncing police officers come up in your social media feed these days. In fact, I spent hours smiling the other night just watching video after video in the latest viral challenge. If you’re curious, it’s under the hashtag lip sync challenge. The music was a total throwback and I loved it and seeing the creative sides of cops coming through. As a public relations and video agency, we love to see people using video in different ways to communicate and the PR, is priceless.

We know it’s been a rough couple of years for officers shootings, protests, trials, and controversy. You can turn on any cable news channel and find some sort of controversy. So from a public relations perspective, the lip sync challenge is brilliant. It has the ingredients PR consultants like myself want to see:

It’s visual, it’s fun, it’s a feel good for the public, and can get traction for free out in the world. Once the departments make the videos, they challenge the next department, which showcases the amazing cooperation at work. Who doesn’t need a reminder that we’re all in this together?

The final piece of great PR is the benefit to the company, or in this case, the police departments  there’s an internal benefit with morale and a new sense of pride and a sprinkle of fun as well.

As a corporate PR consultant, I’d challenge you to find some sources of good PR in your company.

It’s there, you just need to mine it. I’m not saying film your own viral challenge video, but look inside your walls to find that great community service project you aren’t telling the world about yet, or the unique way you’re giving back to employees. I bet you’d be surprised how good it feels it share your news with the world.

And to all the law enforcement officers who have put themselves out there, lip syncing their hearts out, great job. Thank you for keeping us all safe and thank you for the feel good entertainment.
