From a Millennial Herself: 5 Tips to Reach Millennials in Your Marketing Strategy

We are in a world of notifications, likes, tweets, statuses, and shares. We communicate via text, Skype, Snapchat, and Facetime. And we don’t like to actually talk. Okay… the last one was just a joke, but we are millennials. We are a generation that does life a little differently compared to others, because we’ve grown up with technology constantly in our hands. So how do you reach us in our own little world? I am here to fill you in. 1. Fewer Words, More Pictures A glob of words isn’t going to necessarily grab anyone’s attention, let alone a millennial’s. A picture, though, is a different story. Grabbing someone’s attention with a picture is far more effective than a paragraph. Millennials like to keep things simple, and what we like we share. Therefore, a simple ad with fewer words and more pictures won’t just attract one millennial, in some ways it could attract us all.

2. Take it to a Mobile Platform At any waking moment, thousands of millennials are glued to smartphones with FOMO (fear of missing out). For whatever reason, the majority of our time is spent on smartphones, so it’s common sense; use it to your advantage.

3. Easy and Convenient Whether you are aiming to get more page likes or simply looking for more views on a post, you will find that making it easy and convenient for us is your best bet. The less clicking or tapping around we have to do to learn more or to like the page, the better. Refer back to tip one; I can’t stress enough that simplicity is key. If it’s easy, convenient, and interesting to us, we will do it.

4. Integrate Social Media There is a variety of social media out there, and millennials are on every platform. Keeping in touch, being creative (well, some of us), and learning the ropes of the next best thing in social media or technology keeps us occupied. You will find it is the easiest to find millennials on social media platforms.

5. Engage We like, tweet, tag and hashtag in hopes of being recognized by something that matters to us. If you are trying to be one of those things that matters, engage us and allow us to engage with you. Whether it’s through one of your social media ads or a comment on a post, figure out ways to engage us regularly. This is your opportunity to get us talking about you. And trust me, there is never a notification that goes unnoticed.

As millennials, we are always following the latest trends on social media and with technology. Reaching millennials will only help you to grow as a business, since we’re the next generation of consumers. These five tips and tricks to reach millennials are simple and easy ways to stay connected with us. So keep rolling with the punches and know that even though we seem to be in our own little world, visitors are always welcome.
